A Rights Group has remarked that because of the impending Olympics in China, the human rights record of this country is growing worse and not better. As per Amnesty International, China is ferociously squashing dissent especially on the Tibet issue to present a peaceful image ahead of its August Olympics. As such, it pleaded the international Olympic Committee (IOC) and world leaders to protest against abuses, including China’s managing of the dissension in Tibet.

Consequently, the US President George W Bush is also being pressurized to boycott the opening of the Olympic Games. US President replied that he intended to attend the Games. But, he was quick to point out that Germany’s Angela Merkel said that she will not. Even French President, Nicolas Sarkozy has not ruled out a boycott. A team of the International Olympic Committee is presently in Beijing to examine how ready China is for the Olympic Games.
