After being fourth in the qualification round, Oleksandr Petriv of Ukraine astonished everyone as he came up with the glistening gold in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at the Beijing Olympics. After scoring 200.2 in the final, Petriv won the gold medal with a total score of 780.2, a new Olympic record for the final score.
German Ralf Schumann, who was tied with teammate Christian Reitz after the qualification stages on 579 points, thrashed Reitz by two-tenths of a point and sealed the silver medal with a final score of 779.5. The defending shooter Reitz was left with the bronze medal with a final score of 779.3. However, the three shooters were the ones who entered the final with the lowest qualification scores.
