Norwegian Olaf Tufte grabbed the gold in the Men’s Single Sculls in a time of 6:59.83min, holding off the Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic by 0.8 seconds. Thus, Tufte successfully defended his Olympian title. While Synek won the silver, Mahe Drysdale of New Zealand finished third and received the bronze medal. Olaf Tufte, a three-time Olympian, also won gold in the Men’s Single Sculls in Athens Games.
Tufte was in third place at the 500m mark, and then he pulled into the first place at the 1,000m mark. He again fell behind Drysdale at the 1,500m mark, and subsequently he accelerated his pace and won gold in the final stretch. Ondrei Synek, who was placed fifth in double sculls in Athens Games, didn’t begin fast but gradually sped up to secure the silver medal. Mahe Drysdale led until the 1,500m mark, but finished in third in the final race.
