Capital Delhi recently held a nude art show where 45 nude photos titled ‘Skin’ by experimental photographer Sanjib Sen were on display. Here the monochrome photographs in color misted the standing nudes to focus on a pair of dancing hands or a curved swathe of the buttocks; a zoomed photo of a rounded mound of flesh from the region of the belly and breasts was observed artistically.
The exhibition has been successful in bringing up appreciators of the nude art with mature understanding of art. Visitors and buyers appreciated the natural artistry of the human body; particularly, photographer Sanjib Sen's effort to create an art beyond the display of female body parts. Evidently, Uma Nair, who happens to be an art critic and auction analyst was the curator of the exhibition.
The major versions of photography were mostly in black and white, monochrome shades of russet (reddish brown) and its paler ochre. Sen has been able to portray the torsos and trunks of women to give appearance of disjointed entities - floating in space. Also, his portrayal of arms, breasts, necks and limbs in 16 X 16 inch and 42 X 54 inch frames attracted art enthusiasts.
