A UK-based food supplier group, run by an Indian-origin entrepreneur, has been awarded for a new brand of India-produced rice. DCS Foods, a Leicester-based firm, won the prize in the 'new product' category of the Food and Drink Innovation Network awards supported by the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA), a regional development agency.
DCS Foods has been the first in the UK to distribute 'Maharani' rice imported from India. The company says it tastes like white rice but is as nutritious as country's brown rice. Managing Director of DCS Foods, Rikki Verma said that they are privileged to be honored with such award.
These awards celebrate and recognize the achievements of some of the most innovative businesses in the East Midlands -- businesses that are growing and creating jobs by exploiting new ideas, technologies and markets. Leicester has a large population of Indian-origin that supports a sizeable market for Indian groceries and other items.
