Fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic entered into the second round of French Open after his opponent Nicolas Lapentti had to pull out due to an ankle injury on Tuesday (May 26). Djokovic was declared the winner with a score line of 6-3, 3-1. Earlier the match was delayed due bad weather. After the match, Djokovic said that playing conditions were very difficult as the force of wind was very strong. He added that is was very difficult to judge the direction of the wind so he committed more unforced errors.
 
The 22-year-old Serbian will now play against Brian Dabul or Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round of the French Open. US tennis sensation Serna Williams has also made her way into the second round after beating Klara Zakopalova by 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. Zakopalova gave a tough challenge to Williams, but in the end the world number two sealed the victory in two-and-a-half hours. India's Sania Mirza could not enter the second round after losing her match to Kazakhstan’s Galina Voskoboeva. 

On Tuesday, most of the matches were affected by rain. Men’s fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro defeated Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. Others who have entered the second round include Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Eleventh seed Gael Monfils, former champion Juan Carlos Ferrero and Jelena Dokic have also progressed.
