The recluse North Korea state on Friday, May 30, 2008 test-fired three short range missiles off its west coast. A South Korean news agency quoted a government source saying the move was part of a military training exercise involving Russian designed Styx ship-to-ship missiles with a range of 46 kilometers. Experts have said it before many times that North Korea has more than 1000 missiles, at least 800 of them ballistic that can hit all of South Korea and parts of Japan.
Lee Sang-hee, South Korean Defense Minister on Saturday, May 31, 2008 told the media that he can neither deny nor confirm the reports of the missile test. Experts suggest that North Korea has developed an arsenal of short-range missiles capable of attacking the capital Seoul, South Korean bases near their heavily armed border and U.S. troops stationed in South Korea to support the country's army. The chief U.S. and South Korean envoys have been involved in six-country talks over the past few days and have met the North’s chief envoy in Beijing, which are aimed at ending North Korea’s nuclear arms ambitions.
