US State Department said on Friday that North Korea has informed the US that it has detained a second American citizen, who allegedly entered the Stalinist state through China.
However, no details of the individual were provided including the identity and the US government is working though the Swedish embassy in Pyongyang to know the details of the detainee, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said.
As there is no formal diplomatic relations between US and North Korea the Swedes represents US interests to provide details of the individual who was arrested on Jan 25 becoming the second known US citizen in North Korean custody.
Washington has also sought access to one Robert Park who was detained by North Korea in December while wandering across the border from China on a religious mission.
In March, North Korea also arrested two US journalists who allegedly entered into the country illegally and sentenced to 12 years of hard labour. They were released and flown back to the US months later after a meeting in Pyongyang between former US president Bill Clinton and North Korea leader Kim Jong Il.
