Indira Nooyi of Pepsi Co with a package of $12.7 million/month is USA's 12th top-paid women. The new list compiled by Forbes 'The Highest-Paid Women In Corporate America' reveals that at number one position is Margaret C. Whitman of eBay with $120.4 million. Second to her is Carol A. Bartz of Autodesk, she gets 45.7 million, i.e. nearly three times less than Whitman.
However, Forbes writes that the list also sheds new light on the fact that women executives are less paid. The magazine says that the median salary for the 100 CEOs of the largest US companies (all are men) is about twice the median salary of the 100 highest-paid women. Forbes says that at least 100 women pulled down $3 million last year, but the 100 best-paid men in corporate America all CEOs --each pocketed at least $18 million.
Magazine opines that the comparison is not perfect not every woman on the list is a chief executive but more of the male paycheck does seem to be variable, dependent on performance and, therefore, at least partly keyed to taking risks. However, it concludes that the list is yet another indicator that women are not achieving equality at work.
