Mobile manufacture company Nokia Corporation has unveiled its first cell phone developed with China's 3G mobile technology. It is aimed at driving Nokia’s market growth in the region with the sale of low-priced handsets.

Nokia is in stiff competition with Apple’s iPhone in the fast growing smartphone market.

The new China 3G phone looks like a slider style with a mirror like screen. It is otherwise called the Nokia 6788, which would be released by the end of the year.

According to Nokia Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the new set has been designed based on the Chinese standard, called TD-SCDMA. However, the new model will be priced later after negotiation with the state-run China Mobile.

Mr. Kallasvuo said that Nokia had about 38% market share globally and China had also an encouraging growth rate in the mobile market. He also said that they would take the advantage of growing Chinese economy to grab a good market share.

Mr. Kallasvuo has said the Finnish company plans to upgrade its smart-phone portfolio in the fourth quarter to take advantage of growing consumer interest in the category.

"Mobile Internet usage will only accelerate," he said to the media.

Kallasvuo made it clear that consumers will want applications like maps and e-mail integrated into a single mobile device. So they are spending about $60 billion in research and development.

China Mobile will also assist in Nokia’s 3G phone expansion plan by rolling out several smartphones this year in addition to the 6788 model. Its competitor, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. is planning to launch new iPhones based on its own 3G standard called WCDMA.
