Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks, Inc have received regulatory approval for entering into a joint venture to foray into the Carrier Ethernet market.
 
Juniper Networks is the market leader in networking whereas Nokia Siemens Networks is the global leader in the segment of telecommunications services enablers.
 
The joint venture is aimed at providing a Carrier Ethernet solution for mobile backhaul, business and residential broadband networks. The JV, which will be formed in Amsterdam, as ‘Carrier Ethernet Solutions B.V.’, will have Juniper Networks and Nokia Siemens Networks holding the stakes in 60-40 basis.
 
John Stewart, who had been the vice president and general manager of the Mobility and Circuit Emulation Business Unit of Juniper Networks, will be the CEO of this JV.
 
Ton van den Boom, who had been the senior manager in finance and control at Nokia Siemens Networks, will assume charge as the Chief Financial Officer. The supervisory board of the JV will have Manoj Leelanivas of Juniper Netwroks as the chairman and Bernd Schumacher of Nokia Siemens Networks as vice chairman.
 
“The Juniper-Nokia Siemens Networks joint venture will offer the industry’s best unified Carrier Ethernet solution from metro access to aggregation, fully interoperable with IP/MPLS core and managed by Nokia Siemens Networks ‘point and click’ network management system,” said incoming CEO John Stewart. “Our customers will be able to leverage the solution to offer new revenue-generating services while lowering transport costs and total cost of ownership. We look forward to offering this powerful solution to new and existing service provider customers.”
 
The solution comprises of Juniper Networks MX Series Ethernet Services Routers and Nokia Siemens Networks’ A-series Carrier Ethernet Switches as well as end-to-end network management system including “point-and-click” provisioning. These components will be integrated into a seamless and fully-tested end-to-end solution.
 
The new solutions will be made available by the first calendar quarter of 2010.
