The world's largest and leading mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia sold its Mobile TV unit to India-based Wipro. The details of the deal have not been revealed yet. Commenting on the recent move, a spokesperson of Nokia said that the company intends to focus on the mobile TV clients for its devices instead of concentrating on the business-to-business side.

About 40 professionals are employed in Nokia's Mobile Broadcast Solutions unit. The employees are engaged in developing software and hardware to enable mobile TV technology to locate and access data from a broadcasting network. Mobile television and on-demand video business was seen as prospective move only a few years back. But the technology has not been able to pull much attention since its arrival.

Bangalore-based Wipro Technologies operates in the areas of information technology, consumer care, lighting, engineering and healthcare. According to analysts, the acquisition of Nokia's Mobile Broadcast Solutions unit by Wipro is going to shine the business much as people in India are attracted towards 3G services. Nokia's Mobile TV unit was launched to target broadcasters, telecom operators and Mobile TV operators.
