Nokia has declared that it will add an improved mapping service to its internet portal ovi that provides a slew of services. The technology for this mapping service will be provided by Navteq, which has been newly acquired by Nokia. It is reported that the enhanced version of the mapping service will provide people maps for routes, update on traffic situation and so on.
Nokia Company describes its mapping service as the link between the real and the virtual world. The company says that people with GPS enabled Nokia handsets can track their travel routes and upload the same on to the ovi.
It adds that the routes can also be saved and shared with friends and acquaintances through the portal. But for this, one first requires to purchase the maps database and pay a subscription fee also three times a year for updates.
