In a bid to offer agricultural and educational services for rural mobile users, Nokia has launched its Life Tools group of services in India. The company has decided to go for a pan India launch after successfully conducting a trial in some parts of Maharashtra in the past four months. Speaking to media, executive vice president and chief development officer at Nokia, Mary McDowell stated that the pilot program has been very successful in India that prompted the company to launch the services in more emerging markets.

Life Tools includes a range of services including agricultural and educational tips for farmers. It will offer services like local weather forecasts, information on crop prices at local markets, advice on growing crops, as well as pricing information for pesticides, seeds and fertilizer. In addition to these, Nokia's Life Tools offers educational services like English lessons and advice on taking exams. The new service will also offer sports updates and music for the farmers.

Initially the services will be available in Maharashtra for which the handset maker has tied up with the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB). The full-fledged solution of Nokia's Life Tools will be available on Nokia 2323 classic and Nokia 2330 classic devices. The service will be expanded to other Nokia devices later. The agriculture-related offerings on Life Tools can be enjoyed by paying Rs 60 per month while services such as English lessons will cost Rs 30.
