The world’s leading mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia declared on Monday June 23 that it has decided to buy out Plazes, a social networking start-up as a crucial move towards providing internet services. The website of Plazes is http://www.plazes.com and its provides a platform through which users can see what others are up to and what is happening at different locations. Nokia, however, has not divulged the value of the deal.
Niklas Savander, the head of Nokia's Internet services has stated that this acquisition of Plazes will help the mobile manufacturing company in furthering its vision of bringing people and places closer. Social networking companies such as Plazes are increasingly trying to take full advantage of the potential for new services as more and more mobile phones these days are manufactured with the technology to detect locations. Nokia has stated that it will produce dozens of such handsets by this year’s end.
