Government has decided to ban all the pre-paid mobile connections in Jammu and Kashmir with effect from Nov 1. The government has cited security reasons behind this step.

The step has been adopted by government after numerous incidents of militants using pre-paid connections, under false names, for communication and plotting were reported by security forces.

This announcement has been made by the government, just a few days after Home Minister P Chidambaram had informed the people that government is planning for such a move.

The Indian citizens from other states owing prepaid connections will not be provided roaming facilities while visiting J&K and the seven North Eastern states.
