Premier educational institutes of India like the IITs and IIMs are complaining about lack of resources to implement the OBC quota this year. HRD Minister, Arjun Singh on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 held a day long meeting with the heads of Central Educational Institutions. The minister at the meeting remarked that the ministry is aware that the institutes have problems of faculty and resources and they will do everything possible to help them, but all of them are surely implementing OBC quota from this year.

Sources reveal that the heads of IITs and other institutes voiced the maximum concern about implementation. Head of an IIT revealed that the institutes basically have resource related issues like setting up of more laboratories and employing more faculties. It is clearly understood by the institutes that they will have to start implementation from their own resources as the government is going to compensate them only after the cabinet clears the extra funding to these institutes. None the less it was a successful meeting and there was no resistance from any institute about implementation of the 27 percent OBC quota as the institutes have already started the implementation process.
