Just a day after Nissan announced its collaboration with Bajaj for manufacturing a low cost $2500, it has said that it is also planning to go solo and launch an entry level car in India by 2010. This car, it said, will have 90 per cent localization and will be competitively priced. Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan has said that the company will vie in the entry-level car segment with a fully devoted team. At least three models will be created in five leading competitive countries (LCCs) and their first lot will get launched in Thailand and India by 2010.
Carlos Ghosn further added that since Nissan does not sell entry level cars, it sees a lot of room for improving. The entry cars from Nissan form an integral part of its plan to provide ‘affordable models’ globally to a substantial segment of consumers. As far as the Indian market is concerned, Nissan has planned to widen its domain through collaboration as well as solo run. The president and CEO of Nissan said that he expects the volume of its cars in India to swell to over 200,000 units in fiscal year 2012.
