Speaking at the first International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) – Citi India Global Forum in New Delhi, Robert Blackwill, former US Ambassador to India remarked that the future American President might not take keen interest in the Indo-US nuke deal. The former Ambassador said that it was possible that the next American President may not have the same sunk costs in the US-India civil nuclear agreement that President George W Bush and the top of the administration has.
Robert Blackwill further remarked that it will be India and not America, which will have to pay a substantial price if the deal does not go through. It will have the implication that India will have to compromise on the future of its energy policy and have to bear lack of civil nuclear cooperation from the outside world. Blackwill while talking on the internal political hurdles in India the Indo-US nuke deal is subject to, asserted that this is something which naturally comes as a part of democracy. He stated that there is no pint in criticizing India on this as it is a great democracy which will definitely struggle over domestic political implications of the agreement.
