New Zealand duo Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell won the gold medal in the Women's Double Sculls by finishing in a time of 7:07.32min. The twin sisters were able to defend their Athens Olympic gold. Thiele Annekatrin and Huth Christiane of Germany grabbed the silver with a narrow pass to gold, being just .01 seconds behind the winning time.

Laverick Elise and Bebington Anna of Great Britain caught hold of bronze with a time of 7:07.55min. In spite of a slow start, New Zealanders were in second place at the halfway point. However, Germany was all geared up to maintain a constant stroke rate throughout the race and remain near the front of the pack. Li Qin and Tian Liang of China, despite a good start, finished in fourth with a time of 7:15.85min.
