The Black Caps began their World T20 2009 campaign with a win over minnows Scotland. Ross Taylor scored an unbeaten 21 to help New Zealand go past outsiders Scotland in their opening Group D match in the ICC World Twenty20 at the Oval on Saturday.

The match was reduced by rain to just 7 overs per side but Scotland made an impressive total of 89 for four. The main contributors to Scotland score were Kyle Coetzer, who scored a quickfire 33, and Ryan Watson and Navdeep Poonia, who both made 27 each.

With 89 at the board, Scotland looked for a match but sadly their bowling could not match their batting efforts and the Kiwis reached home with an over to spare.

At a time it looked that the Kiwis were for a surprise but at the end they ensured to avoid the embarrassment suffered by England, who lost to the Netherlands in Friday's T20 opener at Lord's.

Match Details:

Scotland: 89/4
New Zealand: 90/3 in 6.0 overs
Result: New Zealand beat Scotland by 7 wickets
Man of the Match: I. Butler
Venue: Kennington Oval, London (Jun 06 , 2009)
