Healthcare facilities in Bihar are substandard as there are only six government and one private medical college and hospitals serving the 83 million strong population. The recent announcement of new medical colleges and hospitals for Bihar by Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss therefore comes as a real blessing. This declared was made by the Health Minister on Friday, July 11 after the a hike in the student intake in Patna Medical College and Shri Krishna Medical College in Muzaffarpur was rejected by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Mr Anbumani Ramadoss, however, also mentioned that the plan of new medical colleges and hospital in Bihar is currently under Government’s consideration. The Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss had arrived in Bihar to attend a programme organized to observe July 11 as the World Population Day. The Minister acknowledged that in Bihar and other neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, the health care facilities are awful. The Health Minister underscored that it is crucially due to these reasons why efforts are being made by the concerned state governments to better the overall health facilities there.
