Internets which is in existence for quite long needs new and structural changes in terms of security setup and meeting emerging challenges. Putting these issues in front, US government with the help of two research organizations is trying to renovate internet from starting. So far, $12 million have been collected for the purpose and more funds are expected from government side.

The $12 million is just an initial grant from the NSF (National Science Foundation) for the project. The project will not change anything existing and will study without disturbing any current pattern. The ambitious project aims to address the issues of security which has cropped in last decade and more since the inception of internet in the year 1969.

The major partner with US government is BBN Technologies. The latter company is designing Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI). Commenting on the developments Craig Partridge, chief scientist at BBN Technologies, said the commitments amounted to an important endorsement of GENI by two organizations that run ultra-high-speed networks for universities and other researchers to conduct data-intensive projects.
