New Delhi will host a three day long film festival dedicated to veteran film maker BR Chopra and would screen nine of his all time remarkable films, which have contributed immensely to the growth of Indian cinema. The Film Festival will commence in the capital city from Friday, April 18, 2008. With this initiative, the Film and Television Producers Guild of India will endeavor to pay tribute to the master film maker BR Chopra, who will turn 94 on 22nd April.
The event will kick start at Siri Fort Auditorium at New Delhi on April 18. It is being speculated that BR Chopra himself along with his son Ravi Chopra, film makers Basu Chaterjee, Bobby Bedi, Raj Tilak and actor Raj Babbar would be present at the inauguration of the film festival. At the opening ceremony, BR Chopra classic “Insaaf Ka Tarazu” will be screened to open the festival for the next three days.
BR Chopra is known for making films which are socially relevant. This is clearly reflected in the nine of his films among his other productions which will be screened at the festival. “Nikaah” , which will be screened at the film festival, questioned the law of Islam in a very sensitive and unique way. The latest film “Baghbaan” (2003), which will also be screened at the festival, remarkably portrayed how the young ignore their parents due to the fast paced lives they lead today. Other films by BR Chopra to be screened at the festival are “Naya Daur”, “Gumraah”, “Choti Si Baat”, “Humraaz” , “Waqt” and “Ittefaq”.
