Researchers in Detroit claim that their breast cancer vaccine delivers a cancer-fighting gene into cells which fights against tumors. Mentionably, the researchers at Wayne State University in Detroit were developing experimental breast cancer vaccine, and they reached on to the conclusion that it produces immune system proteins as well as tumor-destroying cells which fight against tumor.

The leading researcher, Wei-Zen Wei said that it is a very significant development as the team has put the gene into the cells in the body, and the vaccine is produced by one's own cells. The team used naked DNA from genes that produces molecular signal for the breast cancer tumors to make the vaccine. Accordingly, it might even be used to prevent cancer from coming back in women who have been successfully treated using Herceptin or other drugs.
Wei is of the opinion that both tumor cells that respond to current targeted therapies and those that are resistant to these treatments were eradicated in the process. Further she said that the immune system goes around the body to look for cancer cells, and this may be an answer for women with these tumors who become resistant to the current therapies.
