Traveling within the congested Kolkata just got a little easier as ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services Ltd. (OAIS) has introduced an air-conditioned radio taxi service in the West Bengal capital. OAIS happens to be an Indo-Japanese joint venture infrastructure company.

Launched on Friday, August 9, this air-conditioned radio taxi service is being called the ‘Kolkata Cab.’ The OAIS was born after ORIX Corporation, a Japanese leasing and infrastructure services major, collaborated with Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS), the Indian leasing and infrastructure services major.

A statement issued in this connection quoted Makoto Shioda, director, OAIS, as saying, ‘Large scale investments on roads and related infrastructure has created opportunities for the organized sector to invest in transport infrastructure services and provide the country with efficient and cost-effective services.’ He added that Kolkata Cab service will be gradually introduced in the whole of West Bengal. The main idea is to facilitate safe, clean, cost-effective transport, the statement underscored.
