The Netherlands after defeating France became the third team to advance into quarterfinals of the Euro Cup 2008, after defeating World Cup finalists France on Friday, June 13, 2008. The Dutch join Portugal and Croatia in the quarterfinals after handing France their worst defeat in the championship. It was substitute Arjen Robben, who set up one goal and scored another on Friday to lead the Netherlands to a 4-1 victory over France.
The French’s last hope of advancement in the European Championship is to win over world champions Italy in their last match. The Dutch, who are on a winning spree, defeated world champions Italy 3-0 on Monday. Amongst the French, the only goal on Friday came from Thierry Henry in the 71st minute. Wesley Sneijder, who was one of the scorers for the Dutch was picked up the man of the match. With their Friday win over France, the Dutch have clinched first place in Group C.
