In a bid to meet the energy requirements, Nepal has planned to import power from India. The Himalayan nation is facing acute scarcity of energy and it is on the verge of executing 16 hours daily blackout. Informing the media, the secretary at the Ministry of Water Resources, Shanker Koirala said that the country is expected to experience severe shortage of power supply by the upcoming month and hence decided to take India's help.

Nepal's water resource ministry informed that the country will import 20 Mega Watt power from Tanakpur in India. It also said that in order to deal with the energy emergency situation, the Nepal government is considering to buy more power from India. Currently the country is experiencing 12 hours black out, daily which will soon touch the 16-hour mark.

The Nepal government has declared a state of power emergency, last month. In order to battle out the energy crisis, the government has planned to stop the operation of bill board lights and decided to run thermal power stations. At present, the country is generating 240 MW power, which is 60 percent less than its current demand of 700 MW.  Meanwhile the good news is that the recently completed 70 MW capacity Middle-Marsyangdi Hydropower Project will come into full operation after two weeks.

The Himalayan nation is facing energy crisis because of the low level of water in the major hydro power plants of the country. The condition in Nepal is so bad that the government has decided to close down banks on Sundays from this week and other offices gradually.
