King Gyanendra of Nepal on Monday 21 April has angrily refuted widespread speculation about his going on an exile after the former Maoist rebels emerged victorious in the country’s landmark elections.  A statement was issued from the royal palace of Nepal called media reports about King Gyanendra heading for exile as ‘malicious’. This statement comes after a section of the local as well as international media published reports recently that the Nepal King was heading for exile. Commenting on this issue, a palace source stated that the published media reports said King Gyanendra was going to India.

Adding, the source said that the King will not leave the country and go anywhere. The Maoists of Nepal are all set to win the largest single bloc of seats in an assembly that will rewrite the country's constitution. The vote counting is expected to conclude on Tuesday 22 April. The ultra-leftists, on the other hand, state that they are thinking about terminating Nepal's 240-year-old monarchy soon and have asked Gyanendra to exit from the palace gracefully or be forcibly evicted. They have also warned the Nepal king of a stern punishment incase he refuses get used to life as a commoner in one of the world's poorest nations.
