Guissppe Verdi’s famous three-act musical drama, 'Violetta, a Traviata' was staged at the Shri Ram Centre for Arts, New Delhi on November 9, 2008. The popular Italian opera was organised by Neemrana Music Foundation of Rajasthan. 'Violetta, a Traviata' which is one of the most popular operas of Italy has been adapted in the theatrical format by Giuseppe Cutino and the music set by Onofrio Claudio Gallina.
The drama was performed in New Delhi by crossover cast of Indian and European artistes. The weekend audience have enjoyed the drama and applauded the efforts of the crossover cast. According to reports, the original opera is inspired by Alexander Dumas' play ‘Lady of the Camellias’. The drama deals with the tragic love story of a famous Parisian courtesan of the 18th century named Violetta Valery and Alfredo Germont, a rich young man.
Talking about the success of the drama in front of Delhi crowd, the producer, Francis Wacziarg stated that Indian people love to watch Bollywood movies and the recently staged drama resembles to those movies in all aspects. He also informed that his group is trying to train more Indian artists to attain perfection in drama. Francis Wacziarg is also the co-chairman of Neemrana Music Foundation.
