NATO seems to be taking new military assertiveness in Russian defense policy a challenge. In order to meet new challenges and take tough stand against Russian offensive against small nation Georgia; NATO members will meet at Brussels on 19th August to discuss the issue and decide on the policy towards Russia. The meeting has been called by the US.

Evidently, US has taken strong stand on Georgia issue, and President Bush in his statement has said that the new action from Russian side in Georgia are against the existing efforts from it to integrate into the diplomatic, political, economic and security structures of the 21st century. Now, post-Georgia conflict NATO foreign ministers will discuss to reconsider the ties with Russia.

Interestingly enough, earlier this week a request by Russia for an extraordinary meeting to discuss the Georgia conflict was turned down citing the need of more time for its preparation. Reportedly, US already has warned that the Kremlin has risked compromising its role in WTO and G8 because of its military activity in Georgia.
