The very first National Youth Games to be convened at the city of Bangalore in India from July 22 to July 29 2008 will have participation of nearly 6,000 athletes. The organizers say that they expect to see around 6,000 athletes in the below-18 age group from all over India vie for the top honors. ‘Events will be held in 24 disciplines’, the Karnataka Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Gulihatti Shekar has remarked.
It was further informed that all those who emerge victorious in the forthcoming National Youth Games can apply for participation in the Commonwealth Youth Games, which will be convened in Pune in September as well as in the Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010. Amar Kumar Panday, the Games High Power Committee Member-Secretary has said that new synthetic tracks would be provided for field events.
