Sources inform that the largest power generation company in India, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is engaged in talks to buy out a coal mine in Indonesia. For its international acquisition spree, it is informed that the NTPC has marked aside US $three billion.

 

It is further reported that the NTPC along with the just floated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) International Coal Ventures (ICVL) will carry out the international acquisitions. SAIL, Coal India, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam and NMDC are other stakeholders of the International Coal Ventures Limited. 

 

Sources inform that the National Thermal Power Corporation is also planning acquisitions at other places around the globe. Chairman R.S. Sharma informed that the public sector giant is eyeing coal mines at Australia, Mozambique, South Africa, Canada and Indonesia.
