Ace South Indian actor, Prakash Raj, has won the award under the Best Actor category at the National Film Awards for 2007.

Surprisingly, ace South Indian actor, Prakash Raj, has won the award under the Best Actor category at the National Film Awards for 2007. Along with him in the race for the award were Bollywood heroes, Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan. But, he left them all behind with his stunning performance in the Priyadarshan movie, ‘Kanchivaram’.
 
Prakash Raj had won the award under the category of the Best Supporting Actor in 1993 for the Mohanlal - Aishwarya Rai movie, ‘Iruvar’. He has also won a s special jury award in 2003.
 
The award for the Best Actress has gone to Umashree for her performance in the Kannada movie by Girish Kasaravalli, ‘Gulabi Talkies’.
 
‘Kanchivaram’ has also won the award under the Best Film category for 2007. The movie, which has been diredcted by veteran film maker, Priyadarshan, essays the lives of silk-weavers in the city of Kancheepuram in the pre-Independent India.
 
The award for the Best Child Actor went to Sharad Goyekar for his performace in the Marathi movie, ‘Tingya’.
 
Darshan Zariwala won the award for the best supporting actor for his performance in Feroz Abbas Khan’s film "Gandhi My Father".
 
This movie, which depicts the troubled relationship between Gandhiji and his son, Harilal, has also won a special jury award.
 
‘Chak De’ won the award under the wholesome entertainment category whereas ‘Taare Zameen Par’ was awarded for being a good the family welfare movie.
 
‘Meri Maa’ from ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fetched the Best Playback Singer award for Shankar Mahadevan.
