National Archives of India is now offering the manuscripts of some great Indian leaders, some of which can even be dated back to 1748, to the school students so that they can get a feel of the manuscripts.

The National Archives who permanently own these Indian government records has offered this rare opportunity to children as a part of their anniversary celebrations. The event, which kicked off yesterday, will conclude on Oct 9. This event is being conducted by National Archives in collaboration with Delhi-based NGO Delhi International Art Festival.

The National Archives has in its custody over 40 lakh files besides manuscripts, maps, private papers of eminent Indians, oriental records in different language and scripts. These are invaluable sources of Indian history.

Some of the records belong to the period between 1748 and 1947.

"With the global revolution in the field of information, the interest in records has begun to assume greater significance," it said.

"The National Archives has been trying to reach out to the public at large, through its various outreach programmes... with a view to inculcate a spirit of history and curiosity, through exhibitions, seminars and lectures," it added.
