India’s Natco Pharma Limited, which is based in Hyderabad, has declared that it has entered into a collaboration with the Pittsburgh based Mylan Inc in order to distribute and market its product, glatiramer acetate (sold as Copaxone R), on a global scale. It is reported that Natco endorsed a licence and supply agreement on Tuesday, June 10 with Natco Pharma for its glatiramer acetate pre-filled syringes. The glatiramer acetate pre-filled syringe is the generic form of the CopaxoneR and is useful in treating multiple sclerosis.
This deal between Natco and Mylan gives the latter special distribution rights for glatiramer acetate pre-filled syringe in the markets of United States as well as Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Canada. At the same time, it can also expand into extra regions as per its wish. The glatiramer acetate product has been commercialized by Natco in India and Ukraine. Rajeev Nannapaneni, the CEO and director of Natco said ‘Mylan's presence in 90 countries and a broad portfolio would enable the Natco's glatiramer acetate product to be available to a wide patient base.’
