NASA on Monday has reported that its Phoenix has first time experienced falling snow on Mars. Also, the Phoenix spacecraft has discovered two minerals on Mars, which suggest that the Mars had water in it at some point of time. The two minerals calcium carbonate and sheet silicate, according to scientists are found only in presence of liquid water.

NASA informed that a laser aboard the Phoenix recently detected snow falling from clouds. The snow fell at the spot located more than two miles above Phoenix's home in the northern arctic plains. However, the snow disappeared before reaching the ground. Scientists assume that there could have been standing water at the site in the past.

Peter Smith chief scientist of the University of Arizona, on the latest finding said that Mars has many surprises and still investigation is on. The new finding by NASA is contrary to today's Mars, which is frigid and dry and does not have any sign of water on the surface. Researchers, however, are of firm view that the planet once was warmer and wetter.
