NASA has claimed that there is definite proof of water in red planet. According to Boynton of ‘Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer Instrument on Phoenix’ there is water in the planet. However, this is the first time that water has been tasted and touched in the planet. Earlier, the observations by the Mars Odyssey orbiter and Phoenix showed evidence of water.
Now, NASA has decided to extend the mission of the Phoenix Mars Lander by five weeks so that the possibility of Mars’s capability of sustaining life in past and future could be tested. Michael Meyer, chief scientist for NASA's Mars exploration program said that they are extending the mission through September 30, and the extension will add 1 more million pound on the budget.
Earlier, Phoenix was launched to discover the possibilities of life in Mars, particularly existence of water in it. Phoenix touched down in May an ice sheet and sent samples of the ice with the instruments added in its kitty. NASA probably concluded the possibility of water after the Lander's robotic arm sent a soil sample to an instrument that identifies vapors produced by heating.
