The name of Formula One and A1GP driver Narain Karthikeyan has been recommended for the coveted Arjuna Award by The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). This announcement was made on Saturday, July 12. The Arjuna Award was instituted in 1961 by the Government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in National sports. Mr Rajat Majumdar, the Chairman of FMSCI said that the body had arrived at this agreement after a lot of brainstorming and that Narain Karthikeyan truly deserves the Arjuna Award as he is responsible for putting India on the world motorsport map.
‘We are currently processing our recommendation which we hope to submit shortly,’ Mr Majumdar added. The FMSCI chairman went on to underscore that if things went as per planned, then Narain Karthikeyan would become the very first sportsperson from the motorsports sphere to receive the Arjuna Award. Narain Karthikeyan was born in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu and nurtured an avid interest in motorsports since childhood. The key reason behind this was because Karthikeyan’s dad was a former Indian national rally champion winning South India Rally no less than seven times.
