Nano is expected to surpass other compact cars in the segment and is forecasted to become second best selling car by 2011, according to a research firm. Meanwhile, compact models including Alto, Nano and Wagon R are anticipated to rule the market by 2017.

According to market research firm JD Power, the world’s cheapest car Nano is expected to overtake its rivals including Hyundai i10 and Alto. Besides, Tata Indica is expected to be the third best selling in small car segment.

“...the Nano is projected to hold the number two spot in 2011 after Tata ramps up production,” JD Power Asia Pacific Forecasting Senior Market Analysts Marvin Zhu and Ammar Master were quoted as saying.

“By 2017, we think the top three models will be the Alto, Nano and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R,” the statement said.

Alto has been the most successful model selling on an average of 25,000 units every month. With the increased consumer spending, India’s small car segment is also expanding.
