NN Vohra, former Union Home Secretary will be the new Governor of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. He will be replacing SK Sinha, whose tenure ended earlier this month. Mr. Vohra is known to be a seasoned and veteran diplomat and has occupied several high posts in the government, including being the principal secretary to the Prime Minister.
The newly chosen governor of Jammu & Kashmir has also been the Centre’s mediator since 2003 for talks with various groups in Jammu & Kashmir. He is currently the central government’s interlocutor in talks with Kashmiri separatists. According to some sources however there may be some delay for issuance of his formal order as the government is studying the request of incumbent Governor SK Sinha to allow him to continue till the end of Amarnath Yatra, which will finish on August 16.
