Those who are members of MySpace can now move or share their public profile data beyond this social networking site. This is because MySpace has introduced its own ‘Data Availability’ service in alliance with partners like Yahoo, eBay, Twitter and Photobucket. People nowadays maintain multiple profiles on different social networking sites, which are becoming increasingly popular. Chris DeWolfe, the CEO and cofounder of MySpace, cites this as the core reason for their introducing the Data Availability’ service. He says that Data Availability will help people in shifting data and content to another site so that they don't have to re-write the same information again.
DeWolfe points out that social activity should not be like a ‘walled garden’. He therefore says that social networking websites should permit users to import and export data from such platforms. The Data Availability’ service will become functional in a few weeks time. MySpace, however, points out that their customers can still maintain a stringent control over what data they share and with which site. The Data Availability’ service will allow members of MySpace to share content like their bios, interests, music, photos, etc.
