Popular social-networking website, MySpace has introduced new music service for the netizens. It was announced that the new music service, ‘MySpace Music’ will be managed by News Corp’s My Space in co-operation with three out of the four premium record labels. Music buffs will have to wait another three to four months for the MySpace Music service to become fully operational. MySpace Music will proffer free streaming music, unprotected MP3 downloads and ring tones.
E-commerce offerings like merchandise and ticket sales will also be provided by the MySpace music station. The motive of this social networking website is to make MySpace a one-stop shop for everything music. With sales of music CDs on the decline, the launch of MySpace Music is a sign that music industry is trying to find an effective way to counter piracy. MySpace has 110 million users, of which 30 million listen to music on the site.
