The Military junta’s slow and disorganized response to the cyclone disaster in Myanmar has left several survivors helpless. Desperation amongst the 1.5 million cyclone survivors of Myanmar is on the rise as police barred foreign aid workers to reach out in the worst-hit areas. Gordon Bacon, an emergency coordinator for International Rescue Committee told a leading news agency that the condition is just awful, with people begging as vehicles go past.
According to certain reports, relief effort is further complicated by incessant rains and has resulted in delivering just one-tenth of the supplies needed for relief efforts. The United Nations and Western powers have also been piling on more pressure on Myanmar’s military regime to hasten its supply of relief’s to the cyclone survivors.
The international community has been flowing tones of food, clothes and medicines but getting to worst affected low-lying delta area has been difficult owing to the military government’s unyieldingness and poor transport mechanism.
