Court of Special CBI Judge A K Verma framedthe charges of murder and rape against Baba Ram Rahim. The charges have been framed under IPC Section 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against the Dera chief. These charges would add more into the troubled fellow.

 

According to a CBI court he was involved in an alleged rape of a Sadhvi of the Dera at Sirsa in 1999. Other than rape charge, he has been charged with the murders of Sirsa journalist Ram Chander Chatterpatti and a former Dera manager Ranjeet Singh. On the other hand, the Dera chief has submitted a plea in Punjab and Haryana High Court, and has asked the court to quash the CBI court’s order.

 

Justice Ranjit Singh of Punjab and Haryana High Court didn't appear impressed by the submissions and arguments of the counsel for Baba Ram Rahim that the CBI court had overlooked the evidences produced by them in their defense. Justice Singh held that in view of statements given by two Dera sadhvis under Section 164 CrPC, a prima facie case was made out against the accused.
