Vijay Tendulkar a famous dramatist who died this year on May 19 would be remembered through a film festival. The film festival will be held between 17-22 July in Mumbai and some well known movies based on his writings would be showed here. The famous playwright of Marathi wrote ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’ and Sakharam Binder’ both of his two masterpieces received critical acclaim.
Other than writing drama, he was a good screen playwright too. He wrote screenplays for some films such as 'Shantata, Court Chalu Aahe' (1972), 'Nishant' (1975), 'Samna' (1975), 'Manthan' (1976), 'Simhasan' (1979), 'Geshrayee' (1980), 'Aakrosh' (1980), '22nd June 1897' (1980), 'Umbartha' (1981), 'Akriet' (1981), 'Ardh Satya' (1983) and 'Sardar' (1993).
The film festival will show tow of his movies, these two movies are ‘Akriet' and '22nd June 1897.' The organizing body of the festival Prabhat Chitra Mandal in collaboration with Rudra Home Entertainment informed that there would be a a show of biographical short feature. The California Arts Society produced short film is titled 'Tendulkar and Violence.'
