Mumbai is all set to get a metro railway project as the central government has approved to fund the first phase of the project with an amount of Rs15.32 billion. The high-expenditure metro rail is likely to be completed in four years. According to a high official of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), an amount of Rs.61.92 billion is required to complete the first phase of the project. The first phase will connect Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd suburbs with a 38 km line. The introduction of metro rail will bring a relief to the people of the region.

The 38-km line will have 27 stations for reducing hassles and chaos. The line will improve the connectivity in southern-northern and eastern-western region of Mumbai. Besides these, the new metro rail will enable the people to save valuable time. The chief minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh who has been instrumental in getting the approval from the government stated that government's help will enable the Mumbai Metro Railway to make progress rapidly. According to reports, the Mumbai Metro Rail project will be implemented under public-private partnership.
