A swashbuckling knock by Sanath Jayasuriya (114 runs, 9X4, 11 X6) helped Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 14, 2008. Jayasuriya plundered the Chennai bowling all round the park scoring his century in just 45 balls. Chennai bowlers lost their rhythm once Jayasuriya started playing his shorts. They didn't have any clue as to where to pitch the ball. 

Sachin Tendulkar was playing his first IPL match, but it was the Sri Lankan southpaw who stole the show. Mumbai overhauled the Chennai total of 156 runs in just 13.5 overs. Joginder Sharma was the solitary wicket taker for the Chennai team when he bowled Tendulkar for 12 runs.
 
Earlier, batting first Chennai team had a disastrous start losing 4 wickets for just 46 runs. Once again it was MS Dhoni (43 runs, 6X4, 1X6) who along with Badrinath (53 runs, 7X4, 2X6) helped Chennai to reach a respectable total of 156 runs in 20 overs. Kulkarni was the pick of bowlers for the hosts picking up 3 wickets. Bravo claimed 2 victims whereas Pollock chipped in with 1 wicket. Mumbai now has 8 points from 8 games they have played so far whereas Chennai has 12 points from 10 games.
