With a view to develop and support its online media platform, MTV Networks has signed a global outsourcing agreement with HCL Technologies. As per the deal, HCL will provide application development and maintenance services to the media firm. Informing about these, HCL Technologies senior director Srirama Srinivasan said that the IT firm will engage itself in developing future technologies such as media players, search technologies and product engineering for MTV Networks.

A part of media conglomerate Viacom, MTV Networks owns brands such as MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. The agreement with HCL will help MTV Networks to deliver content on the Internet. The IT firm will work on developing and supporting platforms for media players, social networking and games for MTV Networks. HCL will accomplish most of the work at its existing centres in Chennai while the user interface design will be supported from Noida.

In order to develop media players like for MTV Networks, HCL will set up a media centre in Chennai. However, none of the companies declined to reveal any financial detail of the global outsourcing deal. According to HCL Technologies CEO Vineet Nayar, riding on the success of its innovative solutions and risk-and-reward sharing model, HCL has bagged a number of deals in the last few months. Just a few months ago, HCL signed a $350-million IT services outsourcing deal with Readers’ Digest Association (RDA).
