In future if you ever lose or misplace your mobile phone, then do not panic because telecom service provider MTNL has introduced the Lost Mobile Tracking System. The best part is that this new software from MTNL can be downloaded and installed absolutely free of cost. A spokesperson for Micro Technologies, the Mumbai-based firm that developed the software said the mobile tracking software can be downloaded for free from MTNL through GPRS and can be installed on about 250 different models of cell phones. Once MTNL’s mobile tracing software is installed, it will store the IMEI number of the missing phone.

The IMEI number is a unique number that identifies each mobile phone as well as the SIM card number being used by a customer. The software will thereafter ask original user to provide one another stored phone number and email address. If the phone is stolen and a new SIM card is being used, the software will dispatch an email and SMS alerting the original user and informing where the mobile phone is currently. The original user can also get the phone number of the new user through this software. One can avail this MTNL service at a cost of Rs 30 a month.
